Alex Tant-Brown
PhD Researcher at the University of Hull
I'm a second-year PhD Politics Researcher at the University of Hull, researching counterterrorism and civil liberties in the UK. Within politics, my academic interest is mainly centred around terrorism and counterterrorism. With my BA Politics dissertation looking at attitudes towards counterterrorism tactics. I also hold an LLM in Legal and Political Theory, with my dissertation looking into the legality of locking down as a response to Covid-19.

Aside from academia, I am also involved in local politics. I am currently a sitting Town Councillor for Sherburn in Elmet Town Council.

This website, will not only cover my academic interests, which range from terrorism and counterterrorism through to British Politics, but also my thoughts on local government from the perspective of a local representative.

Thank you for visiting my website, I hope you enjoy reading through it. If you have any questions - please feel free to contact me, links are at the bottom of the page.

Best wishes,
Alex

About My Research
My research brings together three fields: terrorism, counterterrorism, and civil liberties. The research is centred around the question 'How does counterterrorism complicate the social contract between the government and the citizens in the UK?'.
The research stems from the fact that, as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the UK Government have shown that they are willing to significantly curb civil liberties to prevent a sustained and credible threat to life to its citizens.
