Elections

2022 North Yorkshire County and Unitary Council Elections

I ran as a Conservative Party Candidate in the 2022 Local Elections, in my hometown division of Sherburn in Elmet, to represent the town at the new North Yorkshire Council. Unfortunately, despite running a good campaign, I came second in a one member division with 721 votes.

2019 Selby District Council Elections

I ran as a Conservative Party Candidate in the 2019 Local Elections, in my hometown ward of Sherburn in Elmet, to represent the town at Selby District Council. Unfortunately, despite running a good campaign, I came fourth in a three member division with 628 votes. Running a long standing councillor within 90 votes.

As vice-chair of the council, it is my job to assist the chair of the council in the running of meetings, and stand in for them in their absence. My role also extends to working closely with the Chair in other matters relating to the council and councillors.

Town Councillor

(2022 - Present)

As a town councillor my main role is to act as a representative of the community. This means championing local needs and concerns, respond to casework, and lead local campaigns. It's a role that requires proper attention with many complex issues arising on the first rung of the local government ladder.

Vice-Chair of Finance and Governance Committee
(2022 - 2023)

As vice-chair of the finance and governance committee, it was my job to assist the chair of the committee, and chair meetings in their absence for all matters relating to the financial management of the council. We are also responsible for ensuring the councils governing documents and policies are kept up to date, and in line with legislation.

Member of Personnel Committee

Involvement

Prefab Bungalow Project - Sherburn in Elmet

During my 2022 local election campaign for the new North Yorkshire Council, I picked up a piece of casework that related to a street of prefabricated bungalows in my hometown.

These bungalows were poorly insulated, and as a result very poor at retaining heat in the winter. Residents of these bungalows were worried about their heating bills skyrocketing because of the rise in energy costs.

I lobbied the vice-chair of Selby District Council to allocate funding as part of Selby District Councils legacy projects. My lobbying was successful, as a seven-figure sum was allocated for the project to refurbish and update the prefab bungalows.

As a result of this project, the prefab bungalows have gone from an energy rating that was unclassified, to A rated energy efficient properties.

Executive Member of Selby and Ainsty Conservatives

From 2017 to 2022 I sat on the executive board for my local Conservative Association. This role entailed me to represent the views of members of the party from my ward, as well as to help set the direction for the local party. I sat on the executive for two election cycles, being the responsible social media manager for each campaign. This meant that I was responsbile for the Associations social media presence, and each individual candidates social media presence. From this role I learnt a great deal about local campaign financing and online campaigning regulations.

I further assisted the Deputy Chair Political in designing leaflets, organising action days, and organising candidates, in both the 2019 and 2022 elections for our Association.

Chairman and Treasurer of Sheffield Hallam Conservatives

From May 2018 to May 2020 I was elected to the position of, firstly, Treasurer and then Chairman of the Sheffield Hallam University Conservative Association.

As Treasurer for the 2018-19 academic year, I was responsible for the sound financial management of the society. This included ensuring that we were financially compliant with the Student Union's rules, as well as gaining mutually beneficial sponsorship agreements with local businesses. In my time as Treasurer I managed to increase our finances by over 5000% in one academic year.

As Chair for the 2019-20 academic year, my time was hindered by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown. My main responsibilities were for representing the association in the media, organising social events, increasing membership, and securing the footing of the association. With Covid, unfortunately our first end of year dinner was cancelled just before its announcement. However, we still managed to increase engagement with our social events albeit through an online platform, with virtual watchalongs, quizzes, and study groups.
